Giants Mock Draft #1

The New York Football Giants got the Spencer Legred treatment, and I am very excited about what the Giants got out of Dallas.

My objective in this draft was talent, and lots of it. From an observers perspective, and I mean this in a nice way, the Giants look like a mess.

I have to presume that OBJ may(?) not be around. I have to figure out why their defense was such a disaster. And on top of that, I have to pretend that Eli Manning is worth having around. I do not envy Dave Gettleman.

With this in mind, I decided to trade back, more than once. But I also decided that it wasn't worth recouping the Giants 6th and 7th round picks. This means I had 11 of the first 139 picks. I can work with that.

I traded back to #9 and I still got the perfect New York QB in Baker Mayfield. And I fully trust Eli to trust Baker to learn how to be boring.

I decided to take ALL of the interior line skill in the second round by taking James Daniels at #40 and Billy Price at #59. You can have your SEC defensive backs, you can have your Big 12 receivers. But I will always take the Big 10 offensive lineman. And in two guys like Price and Daniels, they'll be a great security blanket for Eli and eventually Baker.

I literally owned the 3rd round. More importantly, they weren't fluff picks, these were guys that will have an instant impact, all of them will. Dallas Goedert at #66 and Royce Freeman at #69 will create two cornerstone offensive players for whoever is throwing the ball to get it to. Goedert at worst will be Kyle Rudolph and at best will be Zach Ertz on steroids. Freeman at worst will have flashes like a Corey Clement or a James White and at best he can be LeSean McCoy. Allen Lazard at #98 is an impressive young man at Iowa St and had a fantastic Senior Bowl, he WILL be a red zone threat and he has great breakaway speed too.

The defense was my next priority and boy oh boy did that line up. Arden Key was available at #70, not sure why, but needless to say I didn't hesitate. Also RONNIE HARRISON. Why is he there at #74 and why was I able to get him? I don't know but I LOVE IT. D.J. Reed at #80 is a great value as he has genuine upside at Corner but he also has great experience in returning kicks and special teams that should translate well.

Desmond Harrison at #108 is not a great pick because I don't trust he'll show up, but I wanted offensive line talent on the edges. Desmond Harrrison has a troubled background, but he now has a couple of controlled years under his belt, and he should be able to find some success.

High point to end on is Dante Pettis out of Washington at #139. He's been on my list since 2016, because this guy saved Jake Browning's rear end multiple times in the past couple of years. He's got talent and he won't look like at 5th round pick for long.

I am a big fan of this draft, and i believe this will be a similar setting that the Giant's draft falls into.
