The Rundown 4/14
Where Dez He Go? Jack Linnehan A month after the NFL offseason exploded with action, the Dallas Cowboys made shocking headlines by releasing star wide receiver Dez Bryant after eight seasons with the team. Despite a few down years marred by injury, Bryant has still been a respectable WR1 and a reliable target for Dak Prescott. But with a pricey contract, the Cowboys decided to cut ties. So where to now? Players across the league have begun campaigning to Bryant on social media to sign with their team, turning the tables on recruitment. At 29, Bryant is entering the latter half of his career, and does have injury concern. But if he’s willing to take on a cheaper contract, or perhaps an incentive-laden one, he could potentially have himself the pick of the litter. Dez has gone on record saying he’d like to stay within the NFC East, clearly motivated to prove to the Cowboys that they made the wrong decision. Being guaranteed to see them twice a year is a nice bonus, and it’s up to the Eagles, Giants, or Redskins if they’re eager to make that dream a reality. On paper, they probably don’t need to make the move to sign him though. If he sets his sight elsewhere, the Dez Bryant Free Agent Tour could be one of the most entertaining storylines of the 2018 NFL season, before the season even begins.
